We take a look at the details known thus far on Microsoft's GT rival...

Forming part of Microsoftâs announcement last night comes the first concrete information on Forza Motorsport, hoped by Microsoft to become a rival to Sonyâs legendary Gran Turismo series.

Crucially based around Xbox Live!, Forza Motorsport allows racing enthusiasts to collect models from over 60 different manufacturers such as Mazda, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Chevrolet, Ferrari, Porsche, BMW and Dodge, and customize them to your every whim with a wide-range of real-world body kits, rims, spoilers, decals, side-skirts, fender flares, and hood scoops â“ with the intention of transforming production cars into racetrack monsters.

Microsoft are already dubbing the game as the most technically advanced driving simulation on the Xbox to date, having enlisted the assistance of top automotive engineers to create an advanced physics engine that simulates authentic car performance unlike any other racer on the market. Weâre informed that every minute detail has gone into the game, from advanced tyre and suspension models that accurately respond to heat and pressure changes to an unbelievable sensation of weight transfer and aerodynamic loads.

Where Forza immediately gets âone upâ on Gran Turismo is the inclusion of a damage system, which affects car performance based on damage and wear.

However in an attempt to introduce some innovation to the genre, Forza introduces a rather new approach in the form of âDrivatarâ technology. Although weâlll have to wait awhile before knowing more on this feature, weâre told that players will be able to train your own AI drivatars to use the same racing techniques as you do, so that they can race for you in competitions or train new drivers on your team. Claiming to be the foundation for the human-like AI witnessed in Forza, this is certainly one aspect that weâre eager to discover more on.

Weâll have a Hands On look at Forza soon.
