Allow me to introduce Moigle and Hoigle better known as the Floigan Bros, stars of an upcoming dreamcast adventure that look particularly good.

Let me introduce Moigle and Hoigle, better known as the Floigan Bros masters of a junkyard and about to become big stars on the Dreamcast.

The Floigan Bros have been in development for some time now, first unveiled during 1999 (before the US release of the Dreamcast). This summer we will finally get the chance to find out what all the hard work has gone into.

The best way to describe The Floigan Bros is an interactive cartoon, the story is straight out of toon land. Playing as Hoigle the sibling with a brain it's up to you and Moigle (your half-wit twin brother) to protect their junkyard from the evil Baron Malodorous, a land developer who's trying to drive the brothers away from their land.

The gameplay thankfully is not full of cliche's, in fact it's very smart and dare I say it, unique. It's all about interaction between the two siblings in order to solve the puzzles that litter your adventure. To this end VC have created a complex AI system behind Moigle, he's got his own emotions and ideas and it's up to you to influence and use these.

The best way to explain this is with an example. In one instance Hoigle was required to find his way onto a mantlepiece to recover an item that Moigle required to create chocolate chip cookies (from the tutorial option). Being the smaller of the two, Hoigle couldn't reach the platform and had to rely on his brother's help. Hoigle was commanded to insult Moigle (players can access a series of commands such as insult, hug, etc. from a menu) until he was angered enough to ball his brother up and use a baseball bat to whack him up onto the platform. It's this type of logic that makes up the gameplay behind The Floigan Bros.

There's a host of mini-games throughout such as high-five. Beat Moigle and you'll earn points which can be used to bribe him in order to do something you want.

Visual Concepts have exceeded themselves in the visual stakes. The graphics have an excellent cartoon feel, not since Rayman (also on the DC) have I seen this achieved with such good effect. It's very hard to fault the game at all in the presentation stakes, graphics are great the sound is tops including some hilarious dialogue between the two brothers.

The only worrying note is the length of the game. The whole advetnure is confined to the limits of the junkyard, VC are promising 12 individual areas I just hope they're varied enough for most gamers to give it a chance.

Sega and VC are on to a winner. Moigle and Hoigle have what it takes to be the best brothers around since a certain Boston duo who had a fondness for plumbing and saving princesses. I also see a successful franchise appear (multi-format?) in the not too distant future.
