Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix Review

Here we go on another futuristic adventure, with a good supply of weapons, soft porn and a good sense of humor.

Fear Effect 2: Retro Helix will take you in from the start and keep you hooked right till the very end. Oh yes we like this game!

The story centers on the U.S Human Genome Project - an attempt coordinated by the U.S Department of Energy and the National Institute of Health to identify all the 100,000 genes in human DNA and to determine the sequences of the 3 billion chemical bases that make up human DNA. The project was successful in mapping 97% of the genetic material in human chromosome, however 3% was deemed un-mapable â“ the so-called âRetro Helixâ. The game starts when Hana, Rain, Glas and Deke are hired under mysterious circumstances to acquire three separate items (Hana & Rain â“ encrypted DNA sequence; Deke â“ genetic marker; Glas â“ bio sample). What starts out as a routine infiltration and retrieval assignment spawns a bizarre chain of events. Our unlikely heroes are forced to put aside their differences and unite their skills to save the world from impending doom. For what theyâve obtained is more than a mere cure to the most prolific killer disease known to man - the three items combined, in fact, is the only weapon they have against the onslaught of oblivion.

Fear Effect uses a unique game engine called the Motion FX3D which allows the character you are controlling to interact totally with seamless pre-rendered animated backgrounds (FMV). In other words playing Fear Effect 2 is like being part of an anime film. And like most Anime films, there is a huge selection of powerful weapons from the simple pistol, to a flamethrower, grenade launcher, and the powerful Assault Rifle. Weapons arenât the only key to success, the game is comprised of eight unique locations which you will need to explore in full and solve simple yet logical, so from time to time you may need to stop and think through the problem you are facing. For the male gamers, there is more than enough soft-porn clips which work really well with the game and luckily donât bring the overall feel of the game down to a cheap and tacky porn adventure game.

The first game was incredibly difficult to get into, and further more the tasks that you were set were not the easiest ones to solve, a Walkthrough guide was needed more often than not, which spoil the game in the end. Thankfully the developers have made the sequel a lot easier to get into, with well laid out levels, more save points and logical puzzles, Fear Effect 2 will keep you playing to the end.

Retro Helix doesnât see you controlling just one character; this time there are 4 in total each with their own missions to complete. Their adventures will take them to various new locations, ranging from Hells Kitchen in New York City, to a military base in Afghanistan, to the lost Tomb of the First Emperor of China. Each environment tests the skills of the characters; some will call for stealth, others for carnage. As the characters reach their final destination and come face to face with Rainâs evil twin sister Mist you will need to decide who is to live and who is to die!

Comments
Overall Fear Effect is a fantastic adventure game, at certain points you may find yourself a little frustrated with the gameâs camera angles, and if you do not save correctly you will find yourself having to repeat some annoying processes again. Fans of the series will enjoy this one, with the increased gameplay elements and an improved gaming structure. New gamers will also find this one worthy of a position on their PlayStation games collection.
