This is the third installment into the Fallout series and it looks like it is going to be another top title. The fallout series is one of the best RPG series that have come to the PC.

The story picks up where fall out 2 left off, till in the post-apocalyptic setting after a nuclear fallout hence the title of the game.

So fallout tactics, is still based on the same combat mechanics, as the other titles and still works to great effect. This game however moves away from the adventure that the other titles offered and concentrates more on the tactics of battle.

The game still works with the levels, staticâs and characteristics that have been very popular in the series that allow the player to customise their character as they progress through the game. There are also the NPCâs that you can add to your battle group to help you out when the going gets though.

All of the different characters in the game have their own abilities, for example the medic they are the best at healing wounds but as soon as a battle comes along they are no good at helping you out in the fight and will more than likely run away to stay alive. Now the Sniper is a completely different story they will get involved from a distance and do all they can to kill the enemy. As you go through the game you will run into a large number of different class characters.

It is all well and good saying that you can have a lot of difference characters helping you out but the game limits you to 6 people per mission. Each of these characters can be adapted to the playerâs wishes and will become more adept at the abilities that the player selects for them.

This will come as no big surprise that each different mission will need different skills for example in some missions brute force could be the best way o attack the problem, but if the enemy has a strong force then you might be better going to a stealthy approach to the problem. As with most tactical games there is not really a wrong way but some will result in more casualties than others. Also each way that a mission is concluded will automatically change the plan for the next mission.

The movement in the game is still on the turn based but the creators of this game have classed it as continuous turn based. This means that movement firing and items that all take up action points can be done at any time.

Of course the real-time action has been embraced so the extent that is makes Fallout Tactics rather more suitable for multiplayer ballets. The game allows up to 18 players to participate on one of the multiplayer specific maps, with a total maximum of 36 squad members. The game online abilities have been further enhanced by the inclusion of a level editor so that the players can create a map and then use it with their friends. You can also download maps ranging in quality so be careful because there is going to be a few shockers that will be appearing.

This game was almost certainly designed for with the online mode taking the main focus of the developers, as this is a feature that none of the previous games have been able to do.

The game boasts a very fine arsenal of weapon ranging for the close hand combat to the almighty destructive weapon such as the rocket launcher or the chain gun. There is also the introduction of a number of vehicles, the buildings in the game still cant be damaged but this could be down to the fact that the each different building would need a number of different graphics for each state that would put a big strain on the internet play.

One feature that the game retains in all its glory in the GUI to most fallout fans they will find this to be a very good feature of the game is it is extremely easy to find the information that you want in a click of a button.

The title is going to move away from the original if only a bit and this change could be enough to turn people away from the game, but on the other hand it could get a few more people interested in it, only time will tell as the full version becomes available.

Comments
Overall I would say that this game is looking good for most of you RPG fans out there but if you havenât played the fallout series yet get a demo and make up your own mind...
