By Chris Leyton on 01/01/1970 Disney wants its share of the popular extreme genre with Extremely Goofy Skateboarding. Thanks to the success of the Tony Hawk franchise the extreme sports genre has never been so popular, not only do we have the Hawk strutting his stuff, but Matt Hoffman, Shaun Palmer and now Disney’s Goofy and Max are the latest stars all aiming for a slice of the pie.

Extremely Goofy Skateboarding is slightly different to the rest however, aimed at a younger market, which is reflected in easier moves, controls and learning curve but does it have the same compelling hook that made the Tony Hawk series what it is?

Well that all depends on your age, there isn’t enough depth or refinement to cater for those of us who are getting a bit long in the tooth. However that would be selling this game short, it’s aimed at the younger market and in this aspect Goofy Skateboarding does an admirable job of introducing younger gamers to the extreme world of sports. Goofy or Max can be completely controlled by the number pad that occasionally creates troubles for those of us with big hands, but for kids it allows them to easily control the characters and successfully pull off the moves, of which there are a variety to perform, the levels are well designed in most places and it’s all dressed n the trademark Disney humour that kids will love.

Visually it’s all brought together well, character animations are up to the standard you’d expect, with the trademark Goofy humour that appeals beyond the targeted younger audience. Environments are brought to life with the vibrant colours and style that is found in the cartoon series, and although it’s not the most spectacular thing you’ll see on your PC this year it holds up well and kids will love the way it’s been brought to the screen.

Extremely Goofy Skateboarding is a great title for kids, the visuals and humour are up to Disney standards, whilst the difficulty curve is levelled out enough to ease them into the game, and yet still gain a sense of satisfaction as you begin to master the harder moves. A great title for kids and those still engrossed by everything the Mickey Mouse house has to offer.
