The sequel to one of the best dreamcast games ever.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
It takes a little while to get over exactly how much Sega Sports Tennis 2K2 is different to its predecessor. Hitmaker has taken the highly simplistic yet universally applauded control system and made a few modifications.
Players are now no longer restricted to a normal and lob shot but can now execute slice shots. The difference is a marked one, the instant appeal may have suffered slightly in the process, however the scope that having a wider range of control has will suit all but the most hardened VT players. The change has resulted in play feeling slightly more âbouncyâ at times, however this seems to be a result of the amount of influence you have over the pace of the game.
Graphically Tennis 2K2 is a visual leap above the first game, player models no longer take on that Eddie Munster appeal, looking refined and well modeled. To top this off is some of the most amazing animation I have ever seen in a tennis title, players respond smoothly and animate extremely realistically. Stadiums have taken a leap as well, often eclipsing the first in terms of scale and detail.
The game now boasts 16 world renowned players, including the likes of; Venus Williams, Serena Williams, Lindsay Davenport, Magnus Norman, Patrick Rafter, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Mary Pierce, Jelena Dokic, Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario, Alexandra Stevenson, Carlos Moya, Tim Henman, Cedric Pioline, Tommy Hass and Thomas Enqvist.
A refined World Circuit mode allows players to create and train your own player, sign unique doubles partners and enter a host of prestigious tournaments around the world to become ranked #1 in the world. It's a similar process to the previous version, and like that is a welcome addition to the solo player aspect.
