Mario`s Brother explores a new haunt in his starring debut.

No longer playing the second fiddle to older brother Mario, Luigi breaks out as the star of his own adventure with Luigiās Mansion for Nintendo GameCube. The hair-raising fun begins when Luigi is invited by a mysterious letter to a frightening ghost-filled mansion. When Luigi arrives, he discovers that his brother is lost in the houseās many chambers, tunnels and catacombs.

For once, Luigi must be the one to save the day. With help from a kooky paranormal researcher and his Boo-capturing tools, Luigi explores the massive mansion and deals with its other-worldly occupants. By turning a Flashlight on the mansionās ghosts, he can freeze them long enough to suck them up with a specially fitted vacuum cleaner. The gameās incredible use of shadows and transparency create an atmospheric mood while its innovative control scheme makes special use of the GameCubeās controllerās two control sticks.

In Luigiās Mansion, players have two views of the action. The main third-person perspective view shows Luigi, in the centre of the action, searching the mansion and capturing ghouls. A first-person view that allows players to experience the adventure from Luigiās perspective is also available. The display of Luigiās Game Boy horror, a camera-equipped device that the hero carries with him on his adventure, appears either as an inset picture or in full screen. In addition to a first-person view, the Game Boy Horror provides a map of the mansion and more Boo-hunting info.

Luigiās Mansion offers gameplay that is reminiscence of classic old school gaming. With a simple mission, which is collecting ghosts and solving simple yet sometimes tasking puzzles. Developers today are trying to cram as much technical detail and information into games, that the main objective, which is fun, is sometimes left out. Mr Miyamoto has managed to amaze us all again with a game that is simple to pick up and play, yet will keep you occupied for hours on end.

Once Luigi enters the Mansion, you can see the fear in the poor guys eyes. More often than not, our little green clothed hero will squeal at the smallest things. As Luigi climbs the staircase in the central room he is greeted for the first time by a ghost, which as you can imagine scares the living daylight out of the poor fellow. After a smart cut scene with the mad professor, Luigi is on his way to save his brother Mario, and to capture as many ghosts as possible.

How do you get those ghastly ghosts?
The method used is relatively simple. Once you know a ghost is in the room, you need to flash your torch on him to freeze the ghost. Remember Mario Brothers on the SNES, the ghosts would follow you if you had your back turned on them, as soon as you turned round to face them they would stop, this is similar in Luigiās Mansion. Once the ghost has been FREEZED by the torch, Luigi gets out his Super Strong Vacuum cleaner, which you use to suck up the ghosts. Once you start to suck them in a timer will come up displaying how many seconds you have before the ghosts gets completely sucked up. This timer varies on the size of the ghost; they start of at around 10-15 seconds, however the early bosses are 50+. Sucking the ghosts up isnāt always simple however, as they will fight with you and you need to be pulling back to suck them in, whilst you are battling with the ghost there will be a number of objects in your way if you hit them you will loose the ghost and will have to start again.

The Flashlight doesnāt always work!
The flashlight is great for the standard ghosts however some of them require more thinking before you can suck them in. For example during the early levels you will find a ghost sat in a chair reading a book in the library. You know he is there and as soon as you flash your torch at him hi disappears. The trick here is to wait for the ghost to start āyawningā, once he does you can flash the torch at him and then suck him up.

There are a number of puzzles like this throughout the game, making it more puzzle orientated than just a simple action adventure.
