Die Hard: Vendetta Preview

By Chris Leyton on 01/01/1970 John McClane is back in an all new adventure for the GameCube, yippy ka yae...

GameCube owners will soon be given the chance to take the role of John McClane – perhaps the unluckiest cop in history – in a new FPS due for release in 2002.

UK developers Bits Studios announced that they were working on a new Die Hard game behind closed doors at last years ECTS. Today we finally got a chance to reveal what they’ve been working on.

Die Hard: Vendetta is a FPS, where tactics and stealth are as important as having a big gun and being a quick shot. Whilst we’ve yet to see any concrete footage or specific details, the developers are claiming that the game will offer more then your standard FPS, with strong character interactions, highly interactive environments, amazing cinematics and a new Die Hard story that will keep the fans happy.

From the little details that we know, the game takes place several years after the events of the film. John McClane has retired from the NYPD, and is living comfortably in LA hopefully away from any more danger. Following on in his footsteps, his daughter Lucy has joined that LAPD and comes face-to-face with Hans Gruber in her first assignment. Fans will remember that Gruber was the main antagonist in the first film. So it’s up to John and Lucy to team-up and eliminate this new threat and restore the peace

The game will offer a variety of different scenarios from stealth missions to hostage rescue, however like the movies you can expect your fair share of firepower and explosions. The game will feature around 12 levels, taking on familiar locations such as the Nakatomi Plaza amongst others.

The game has been developed with the GameCube in mind, and whilst other ports may appear it’s this machine that the game is suited to. The control system has been designed especially around the GameCube controller, resulting in a system that is both intuitive and responsive allowing the player to battle the enemy rather then the controller.
