Deep Fighter Review

Deep Fighter takes you INTO the under-water realm in this submarine blaster.

Prepare to enter an underwater adventure set in paradise, and as a rookie pilot it is your job to save the civilisation from dangers that lurk at the bottom of the ocean, and we ainât talking about big white sharks.

Deep Fighter follows a standard routine, after you complete certain missions you get a promotion until you work you way to the top of the ladder. You will also receive better equipment along the way. There are 50 missions in total which range from all-out combat action to strategic ones which require a little more care and attention. Failure in any particular mission does not affect the route you will play in the game, which to be honest is a real shame.

At the start of each mission you are given a debriefing which is presented using FMV sequences from some very wooden actors. It leaves you wanting to blow your team members up rather than assisting them in battle. Once you leave the briefing room you get to see the real action and it really is quite impressive. Like every review will say whilst is doesnât look as nice as Ecco it still has some impressive moments.

Your first mission into the depths of the ocean is unfortunately not an interesting one, however someone has to do the dodge jobs. Using your craft you need to collect radioactive material and then bring it back to the drop off point. After a while this gets extremely tedious and will leave you feeling unimpressed. The later levels do become more fun, with god fighting moments against multiple enemies, and taking part in a race to test a new craft.

The vehicles in Deep Fighter are quite tricky to control and at times can be rather sluggish, and when you need to go into battle the easiest option is to head straight for your enemy and simply bash the fire buttons, leaving little left for tactics.

Deep Fighter will keep the average gamer amused for a few hours, however it does become too tedious too soon which is a real shame. If you dig real deep you will find a decent game, so go check it out and see for yourself what you think.
