Daytona USA 2001 makes a welcome comeback to the home, can we expect an arcade-perfect port this time around.
You can see the 90 Degree corner just ahead of you, ten cars behind you, twenty-nine ahead of you. As you approach the famous Sonic Mountain, on go the brakes, tyres squealing and smoke billowing out from the wheel arches. No other racing game can promise the sheer racing intensity of Daytona USA, and the boy has returned to gain vengeance on Gran Turismo.
The idea is simple, the style is slick, the speed is intense, and the adrenaline will be gushing around your body. Yes itās Daytona USA on a home console (we wonāt mention the Saturnās version ok, just play along with me on this one). Letās face it who hasnāt sat down in an Arcade and played four or even eight player Daytona? Hands Up.
Daytona USA 2001 is looking fantastic, quite possibly perfect, but that is a big statement to quote. There are a handful of new tracks to race on, and you can even take it online and play with 8 other people, fantastic. Sega are promising no speed reductions, no lag and twice as much fun as the original sit-down arcade cabinets. For those of you that have friends but no online features on your Dreamcast (there are some), Sega have added a very sexy split screen mode which allows you to challenge your mate, and to top it off Daytona throws in eight computer controlled cars to make the action even more frantic. Play it on your own and thereās an impressive forty other cars to battle the track with. Compared to Gran Turismo humble six.
The code that TVG has received is a very early port. The handling still feels a little twitchy at first with the joypad. However after a few tries playing with a softer touch improved our ranks. This game is simply fantastic; we canāt wait to get our hands on the complete product, with online action.
