Dawn of War: Winter Assault - Mega Armoured Nobz Feature

TVG faces the mighty Mega Armoured Nobz in the latest unit feature for Dawn of War: Winter Assault...
Mega Armoured Nobz â“ by Jonny Ebbert, Game Designer
Ork society (if you choose to call a mob of slavering brutes a âsocietyâ) is governed by a simple rule: The strong must be served; the weak must obey. The strongest Ork calls himself âDa Boss,â and the whole clan must follow his orders or face him in combat. The Warboss surrounds himself with a bodyguard of the strongest Orks. This bodyguard serves both to protect him, and to enforce his orders. The savage brutes that make up the bodyguard are a much larger type of Ork known as Nobz.
Nobz constantly fight amongst themselves to establish a pecking order when dividing the plunder of the battlefield. The Warboss always gets the first pick of any prizes found among the dead. But the rest is divided among the Nobz before the scraps are left for the rest of the mob. Occasionally a Nob can gather the parts needed for a Mega Armour suit. These elite Nobz are known as Mega Armoured Nobz.
Mega Armour is a suit of massively thick and heavy armour plates fitted over a powered exoskeleton. Massive Shootaz are mounted onto the forearms, allowing the Nob to unleash heavy salvos of bolter fire. Nobz in and of themselves are strong enough to take heavy punishment. But a Mega Armoured Nob is a nearly indestructible engine of devastation.
Such protection does have a price, though. The weight of the armour plates and the inefficiency of the exoskeleton slow the Mega Armoured Nobz movement speed down to nearly a crawl. But units forced to flee from the Mega Armoured Nobz path are effectively neutralized from combat, while the Mega Armoured Nob itself can shrug off the damage it takes while in pursuit.
If a Mega Armoured Nob sees a target that they simply must catch, they can Power Surge their armour into short bursts of speed, allowing them to chase down almost anything (as many Space Marine Force Commanders and Chaos Space Marine Lords have learned, just before having the life crushed out of them). But the crude electrical systems of the armour cannot sustain the surge for long. The Nob also pays a painful price due to the massive shocks and burns he must endure while the armour surges.
Truly, Mega Armoured Nobz are opponents to be greatly feared, and any WAAAGH! with a company of Mega Armoured Nobz is a WAAAGH! that is likely to crush anything in its path.
TVG would like to thank Jonny Ebbert for taking the time to explain the details surrounding the new Ork unit, the Mega Armoured Nobz. Weâll continue with our look at Dawn of War: Winter Assault soonâ¦
