Confidential Mission Review

Time to dust off those light-guns.
There are few gun games that get released these days; mainly due to the cost involved with developing the game (and gun) most publishers see them unprofitable. However there are two exceptions, Sega and Namco. Their two main franchises; House Of The Dead 2, already performing well on the Dreamcast, and Namcoās soon to be released Time Crisis 2 on PlayStation 2.
When we received our copy of Confidential Mission to be honest I wasnāt expecting much, I knew it was a gun game, which I would probably enjoy for a good 30 minutes only, if that.
Thankfully my initial predictions were proved wrong, as Confidential Mission played really well. Admittedly there isnāt too much to the game, but for a gun game there isnāt much more you can ask for. As you shoot your way through the levels you get to decide which route you take, these are in the form of shooting special objects, saving important people etc. The levels are vast and have a huge number of targets on screen at once, as you progress through each level you can collect upgrades to your gun, extra lives and bonuses that are scattered throughout the level.
The gameplay is fast and fluid throughout the game, and contains some of the best looking shoot-āem-up action weāve ever seen before. Unlike House Of The Dead Confidential Mission isnāt all about pointless shooting. It will take a certain degree of care and precision to master the game. When your screen fills with enemies youāll need to know which one to shoot first and who to ignore, the levels are also scattered with civilians, like most shooting games if you kill one, say bye bye to one of your lives.
Whilst the gameās length is quite short, Confidential Mission will take you through a number of different areas, each with their unique and different graphical styles. The visuals look superb throughout the game and the animation on the characters is truly fantastic.
If you already own the Dreamcast light gun then Confidential Mission is an essential buy. The two-player mode is fun, and there is enough in the game to keep you playing. Whilst it can be completed easily, it wonāt stop you from going back for another try.
