Chu Chu Rocket Review

Chu Chu Rocket was one of the finest puzzler`s on the Dreamcast, find out what it`s like on the GameBoy Advance.
A lot rested on Chu Chu Rocket when it was first released on the Dreamcast, not only was it the first title to demonstrate the machineās online capabilities, it was also coming from a team that had given us the likes of Nights, Burning Rangers, and not to forget the Sonic series, high standards indeed.
Thankfully the game proved to be a maddeningly addictive puzzler that despite its quirky looks managed to appeal to a number of gamers across the world. The idea to put this game on the GameBoy Advance was inspired; Chu Chu is to the GameBoy Advance what Tetris was to the GameBoy.
For those that didnāt get the chance to try it out on the Dreamcast, the concept is simple, guide a number of mice from the start to the end by placing direction tiles across the ground, these tiles then affect the direction the mice and cats will run. To spice up the action are a number of cats that will eat the mice when they collide, the trick is to ensure the mice are going one way whilst the cats are going in the other, easier said then done.
Certain special mice will appear, when you guide these to the end a number of special events will occur, including, Mice Mania - floods the playing field with an absurd amount of mice, Slow Down - slows the movement of all the mice and cats onscreen, Everybody Move - switches the location of each player's rocket launching pad, and Cat Mania - portals generate cats instead of mice.
The game relies upon a fast pace, quick decision-making and split second reflexes to produce one of the most addictive games of recent times. However there is a definite strategy that you need to employ to be successful, at times the action seems to be so frantic that to the casual eye it looks nothing more then a frenzied mess, which couldnāt be further from the truth. Your brain will be buzzing as you not only try to direct mice into your rocket, whilst diverting them from your competitors, at the same time avoiding cats and trying to guide these into your enemies rockets, crazy but sheer genius. Like the best games out there, practise is definitely rewarded.
The GBA version comes complete with a number of excellent new additions. Firstly over 2,500 new puzzle stages designed by players from the original Dreamcast version, if thatās not enough you can always create your own maps and characters. However the best thing about Chu Chu is itās link-up, only one person needs to own a copy, and then you can indulge in some of the best multi-player gaming known to man.
