Celebrity Deathmatch: Exclusive Interview Feature

TVG's roving reporter dares to challenge the plasticene superstars to get the lowdon on the forthcoming title...
You may not have read that much about this title but TVG, eager as ever to find out more on this fascinating and in many ways innovative game, managed to have a quick fire chat with Brand Inman, Producer on the game, thanks to the lovely PR lady at Take2Games.
Even those not au fait with the MTV program, Celebrity Deathmatch, which the game is obvious based around, need little introduction apart from the fact that two celebrities face each other in the ring and bash hell out of each other in a free for all to decide who wins.
Now that may sound exciting when you have Britney Spears facing Madonna but add to the equation the fact that there are no real rules and also that the models you see appear to made from a very malleable substance like plasticine or some clever programming technique with morphing and some really outrageous and violent moves (all done in the best taste and for the sake of good old entertainment and humour) all adds up to a very unique offering.
Turning this regular and short TV program into a game could well present a really wacky and must play game as each celebrity has their own unique moves suited to their personas.
Let the chat beginâ¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦â¦
TVG: For those that may not have seen Celebrity deathmatch on MTV would you mind giving the readers your 'fix' on what the game offers, the basic
premise, rules and objectives?
Killing celebrities! Ones you like or don't like. This is a brawl where
there is no draw. Someone, if not everyone, dies every match.
TVG: How much interaction have you had with MTV and what were their orders?
MTV had a lot of input on how our models looked. They wanted them to look
representative of a certain time period during the airing of Celebrity
Deathmatch.
TVG: Explain how you go about creating the models/characters within the game and what has been the toughest aspect to get right?
We started with concept storyboards that needed to be approved by both MTV
and the celebrities. Once these were approved, we had an artist model and
texture the designs. These were sent off for approval one more time and
finally made their way into Celebrity Deathmatch where they were used for
comical violence and mayhem. Actually, having the stars nit pick their
clothes and little things like hair colour was the toughest aspect of this.
TVG: We have a list of the 'in game' cast (* at the bottom) and I expect that Justin Timberlake will be one that many fans hone in on. Did you compile the list and meet any celebs?
We actually did not compile the list. There were a lot of celebs we were
shooting for, but for some reason or another, they did not make the list.
The only celeb I personally talked with was Busta Rhymes. He was a blast to
talk to. He had all kinds of ideas, maybe a few too many...
TVG: Can you give us some of the crazy moves, for two of the celebs that are
the team's favs, that they are most excited about?
I like Ron Jeremy in particular. He has so many âfowlâ moves it's
unbelievable. Anna Nicole has a lot of silly moves that involve her
âmelonsâ. We just tried to make them all silly.
TVG: Expand on the option of Create-A-Celebrity, which allows players
to make their own victim of fame?
You can modify a set of pre-made archetypes into something that reminds you
more of somebody else or something just terribly wrong. It's just a way to
kick someone's ass that might not have made it into the game, yet deserves a
pummelling all the same.
TVG: What gameplay modes will be on offer?
The main mode of gameplay is Episode. This is laid out somewhat like the
show. There are 3 matches you must make it through to complete the episode.
Unlike other fighting games, someone must die every match, so we decided to
let the user pick whomever they wanted to use at the outset of the episode
and play through the whole show regardless of whether their character dies
in âRound 2â.
There is also a deathmatch mode where you can play in all of the rings and
use characters you have unlocked in Episode mode.
TVG: Are there any special challenges on offer?
Nothing crazy. This game is meant to be a party game more than anything
else, listened to and watched for the dialogue and bad humour. We think it is
kind of on the edge as far as the material is concerned. We focused on that
instead of making a difficult fighter.
TVG: Sum up the experience in a sentence!
"Bitch slappin' and Pimp smackin', our celebrities deliver!" quoted by the
illustrious Johnny Gomez.
Thanksâ¦â¦â¦â¦
