Bloody Roar 3 Review

Ever felt the need to change INTO a chameleon, this could be just the game for you.
Bloody Roar 3 continues in the same style as previous versions, scratch beneath the glossy visuals and youāll reveal an uncomplicated affair thatās fun to play but may not appease the fighting purists.
The Bloody Roar series takes the fighting genre and adds a novel twist, the ability to metamorphoses into a beast when you power up your rage levels. Each character has a different creature to change into, ranging from wolves to chameleons. Whilst in Beast mode you have higher damage attacks, a regenerating health bar, access to exclusive special moves and the almighty super moves.
Bloody Roar 3 is simple to play, a little too simple for my liking but Iām sure it will find fans. The control configuration consists of a punch, kick, grapple and beast button. Special moves are activated with the trusted half-circle motion, as are the super moves. Unfortunately the simplicity means thereās very little scope to become a master of the game, newcomers will put up just as good a fight as veterans, you just canāt get rid of that cheap feeling.
Adding to the cheap is the almighty special moves mentioned above, connecting with one of these will usually only result in one thing, your opponentās demise. So the game becomes a rush to see who can charge up first, still they look nice. To their credit Hudson have added a number of measures to try and limit these, they just donāt work that well. Firstly you have to be in beast mode to activate them and doing so will result in yourself changing back to human form, even if you miss. However you have to be pretty inept to miss, if you can gauge the distance then you should have no problems.
Bloody Roar 3ās visuals are at times spectacular; environments are often huge, taking place over multi-levels. Whilst the character models are well defined and fairly distinct, at times the game has a rough feel thanks to aliasing problems, however the smooth animation and silky frame-rate ease any worries. All the lighting and particle effects youād expect accompany special and super moves, definitely
Accompanying the well thought story modes are the usual modes youād expect from a fighting title, the versus modes, the training modes, etcā¦
