Aura: Fate of the Ages Mini Review

We have said it before and know doubt we shall say it loads more times; adventure games are an acquired taste and certainly not an impulse buy, which means that adventure gamers are very selective. Aura, coming on 3 CDs, offers a traditional story, presentation and objectives. The puzzles are cryptic - decode and decipher - the interface is the usual point, click, find, use, search and manipulate and the movements are forward, back and to the sides. Now that might not tickle your fancy but everything is slick, polished and PC high tech. Graphics are of the highest order, movements so fast it makes you giddy and the quality of the design and story line is better than average.
As a student of the legendary Clan of the Keepers, the guardians of the sacred rings, you must prepare for a perilous quest that will see you journey through and explore four enormous and diverse parallel worlds.
A good portion of mystery and suspense is conveyed by the ambient scenes and the fine and large, well animated, in game cast, add to the overall quality. Conversely it is perhaps the pedestrian, almost leisurely, pace of the game, with no real early surprises, that suggest this is the standard formula that adventure gamers have come to expect. There are some great outdoor scenes with some striking use of a âway outâ palette, where a pair of dark shades might be advisable.
Aura is safe, predictable and wholesomeâ¦â¦ but is that enough?
