Development of next-generation AAA titles likely to cost double of 360/PS3 titles and pledges motion controller support for all formats...

The pressures related to the costs of developing AAA Xbox 360 or PlayStation3 title are widely known, with suggestions that such a title can cost anywhere between $20-30 million.  Such figures mean that games have to shift considerably more then before just to break even, which coupled by the fact that the vast majority of sales occur in the first couple of weeks leads to a higher risk of titles failing commercially.

Speaking to CNBC, Ubisoft's Chairman and CEO Yves Guillemot has talked about the next-generation of consoles and claimed that the development costs of top-tier titles are likely to double to $60 million.  Naturally this means that such games will have to shift even more copies to break even, or could result in higher prices to the consumer or lower profit margins for the publisher.

To make up for the threat of costlier games, Guillemot does at least suggest such next-generation titles will be worth it, visually at least.  "The next generation is going to be so powerful that playing a game is going to be the equivalent of playing a CGI movie today," predicts Guillemot.

Guillemot moves on to discuss the impact that motion controllers are likely to have on the games industry, staking the claim that Ubisoft will be "in the thick of motion controlled games for all systems".

As much as 80% of the French publisher's family titles are expected to support the controllers, although Guillemot expressed some reservations that such controls would work with the likes of Splinter Cell and Assassin's Creed.

"The current pad for gamers is giving them a lot," Guillemot says. "They play for hours, so they don't want to get up and down. They don't want to be tired after five minutes. These games are about reactivity."

xbox isnt weak only dumb assed fanboys like post 442 think that if they convince everyone to buy there console of choice and theres no other competition out there then the world of gaming would be a much better place.

time for a wakeup call if theres no competition theres no need for updates to be made to games the conoles would last 20 years instead of the current cycle of 5 to 6 years and the cost of the games would sky rocket so stay a fanboy and watch your pathetic argument slap you back in your face or play games like a real gamer should and you should be more open to rival consoles and games instead of cowering under a shell that is the fanboy way.

just cause 1 game isnt on your favorit console doesnt make that console crap, ie is the 360 crap just cause GT5 is not on it or is the ps3 crap just cause halo 3 is not on it (used 2 of the biggest/hyped games for said consoles and i know GT5 isnt out yet).

if were still going to get people going on about the rrod then that an issue to be taken up with microsoft however if the 360 is actually place in a well ventelated area (by that i meen not in a glass cabnet with the doors closed or next to a sorce of heat other wise your just asking for trouble and the chance of seeing the rrod increases by about 80%)if you allow at least 15cm/6inches around the sides if standing/layed down mainly at the rear of the console and definatly not placing the brick right in front of the fans at the rear of the 360.

the ps3 throws out more heat than the 360 yet most people who own one dont place it in the same place they had/have there 360's makes you wonder doesnt it (they seam to know the ps3 might develop issues due to over heating if placed in the same way they had there 360's).

everyone has an opinion and they can share there opinion with who ever they like however certain opinions should be kept to them selfs mainly ones that are fanboy related.

You're not the only one. The game's development has dragged on for far too long and its original vision has been diluted in the process.

Alan Wake looks fun and all, but it just seems like a mash-up of Silent Hill and Obscure - and even Obscure was mostly influenced by Silent Hill. Also, I'm really turned off by over-gesturing motion capture actors, which the game seems full of. I'll play it and have fun, but I'm not as excited about Alan Wake as I was five years ago hearing about it.

lol if this dumb a.ss move by microsoft actually happens (live annual subscription up to £80 a year) then considder the 360 100% dead, they should lower the cost not up it like they did with the arcade in september (was £130 now £160) and its all to do with the euro exchange only the in the UK we use pounds not sh.it.ty euros.
