US patent office reveals real-time audio censoring technology to stop the airwaves from turning blue...
As many would testify, Xbox Live is a competitive arena where it's not uncommon to hear certain words shouted out at times of frustration ('drat', 'dang', and 'blast it' instantly spring to mind). But that could all change in the future, with confirmation that Microsoft's 2004 patent for real-time audio censoring has been passed by the US Patent & Trademarks Office.
The newly granted patent, unearthed by Arc Technica, works by identifying words based on their constituent phonemes in real-time and bleeping or muting the potentially offensive word.
But whilst the technology has an obvious application as Microsoft continues to push the Xbox 360 as a family friendly console, the wider potential could see it used on mainstream TV and even in general telephone conversations.
Sounding decidedly sinister at certain angles, Microsoft is yet to actually reveal its plans for the &$*%-ing technology.

lol if this dumb a.ss move by microsoft actually happens (live annual subscription up to £80 a year) then considder the 360 100% dead, they should lower the cost not up it like they did with the arcade in september (was £130 now £160) and its all to do with the euro exchange only the in the UK we use pounds not sh.it.ty euros.
