In an exclusive interview with TVG, European Xbox supremo Chris Lewis confirms that gaming is a consideration for Microsoft's portable music device...
Already on release across North America and pencilled in for Europe in twelve months time, Zune heralds Microsoft's attempts at cracking Apple's hold on the portable music industry.
In an interview with TVG however, Microsoft's Entertainment chief in Europe, Middle East, and Africa, Chris Lewis, has confirmed that Zune branded portable music players may expand beyond the audio world:
"At the moment, we are focused on creating connected experiences around music for Zune. You can already plug your Zune device into your Xbox 360 to stream music, pictures and video content. Looking ahead, the vision for connected entertainment provides a number of consumer scenarios and with our heritage in Xbox and Games for Windows, gaming is certainly something we're considering for the device."
Whether Microsoft will follow Apple's lead in releasing upgraded Zune devices with in-built gaming functionality is unclear, but it's a sign that the company is at least looking towards some level of "Xboy"-like portable gaming in the future.
We'll have more news shortly...
