CES'06: 50% Xbox Live Take-Up With Xbox 360 News

But with the service offering free 'silver' membership, is this more of a disappointment for Microsoft...

During the course of his pre-show speech, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates announced that over half of those with an Xbox 360 have utilised the online Xbox Live service, compared to the ten percent going online via the original Xbox system. Whilst this figure is obviously significantly more than the take-up on the current-generation machine, it has to be said that with the free Silver membership being offered with Xbox 360, fifty percent seems to be quite low - however that hasn't stopped Microsoft from putting a positive spin on things.

Xbox boss Peter Moore also announced that a demo of the forthcoming EA Sports title Fight Night Round 3 is now available to download via Xbox Live Marketplace, although whether that's going to be available to gamers in Europe is unknown (after all we didn't get the Mission Impossible 3 and X-Men 3 trailers - Europe missing out again.) Moore also confirmed that over four million downloads have taken place in the first month since the launch of Xbox 360.
