Microsoft seemingly contradicts itself as Steve Ballmer appears to announce a new Xbox unit...

Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer, Steve Ballmer appears to have let news slip of a new Xbox system that will launch alongside Project Natal in 2010.

During a speech on the recession at the Executives Club in Chicago yesterday, Ballmer spoke of a new Xbox 360 that will be released with a built-in camera when Project Natal launches in 2010.

According to a TG Daily report, Ballmer stated that the new Xbox unit will contain technology that is "really, really close" to an actuality and has a "natural interface" that can recognise movement and voice through the built-in camera.

This follows rumours that emerged earlier in the week of a new Xbox platform that would launch alongside Project Natal. The alleged system was said to have a slightly beefier processing unit than the existing Xbox 360, although it will be compatible with the Xbox 360's back catalogue.

Since the rumour emerged, Microsoft has been quick to poor water all over the flames of the report, all but flatly denying the existence of any system. However, following Ballmer's comments yesterday, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg has now told Kotaku that "There will be no new console".

Greenberg, Microsoft's Director of Product Management for Xbox 360 and Live, said of Ballmer's comments, "We're not going to be launching a new console any time soon. I really believe he was speaking about Project Natal."

However, when asked if Microsoft had considered integrating Project Natal into a new hardware configuration for the Xbox 360, Greenberg noted that, "Yes, we have looked at that, but we haven't announced any details for something like that."

He went on to re-state Microsoft's current position on Project Natal, which is that there is still no launch date for the technology and that it will be compatible with all the Xbox 360 systems that are currently on the market.

xbox isnt weak only dumb assed fanboys like post 442 think that if they convince everyone to buy there console of choice and theres no other competition out there then the world of gaming would be a much better place.

time for a wakeup call if theres no competition theres no need for updates to be made to games the conoles would last 20 years instead of the current cycle of 5 to 6 years and the cost of the games would sky rocket so stay a fanboy and watch your pathetic argument slap you back in your face or play games like a real gamer should and you should be more open to rival consoles and games instead of cowering under a shell that is the fanboy way.

just cause 1 game isnt on your favorit console doesnt make that console crap, ie is the 360 crap just cause GT5 is not on it or is the ps3 crap just cause halo 3 is not on it (used 2 of the biggest/hyped games for said consoles and i know GT5 isnt out yet).

if were still going to get people going on about the rrod then that an issue to be taken up with microsoft however if the 360 is actually place in a well ventelated area (by that i meen not in a glass cabnet with the doors closed or next to a sorce of heat other wise your just asking for trouble and the chance of seeing the rrod increases by about 80%)if you allow at least 15cm/6inches around the sides if standing/layed down mainly at the rear of the console and definatly not placing the brick right in front of the fans at the rear of the 360.

the ps3 throws out more heat than the 360 yet most people who own one dont place it in the same place they had/have there 360's makes you wonder doesnt it (they seam to know the ps3 might develop issues due to over heating if placed in the same way they had there 360's).

everyone has an opinion and they can share there opinion with who ever they like however certain opinions should be kept to them selfs mainly ones that are fanboy related.

You're not the only one. The game's development has dragged on for far too long and its original vision has been diluted in the process.

Alan Wake looks fun and all, but it just seems like a mash-up of Silent Hill and Obscure - and even Obscure was mostly influenced by Silent Hill. Also, I'm really turned off by over-gesturing motion capture actors, which the game seems full of. I'll play it and have fun, but I'm not as excited about Alan Wake as I was five years ago hearing about it.

lol if this dumb a.ss move by microsoft actually happens (live annual subscription up to £80 a year) then considder the 360 100% dead, they should lower the cost not up it like they did with the arcade in september (was £130 now £160) and its all to do with the euro exchange only the in the UK we use pounds not sh.it.ty euros.
