Take-Two Interactive announces that its BioShock 2 developer, 2K Marin is developing an FPS based on the XCOM universe...
Take-Two Interactive has announced XCOM, a series revival of the isometric tactical games from the mid-nineties bearing the same name. This new instalment will be told from a first-person perspective though, with BioShock 2 developer, 2K Marin taking the helm of this XCOM reimagining.
The initial announcement has positioned the title as an Xbox 360 exclusive that's also coming to PC, although there was no mention of a release window. Take-Two had previously indicated that 2K Marin was working on a second project alongside BioShock 2 as far back as last August, which was apparently "far beyond the conceptual stage" at that time.
XCOM's story will pick up on the paranoia of its predecessors, positioning the player amidst terrorist attacks from an unseen alien foe in the role of an FBI agent charged with the task of uncovering the enemy. Despite the lack of screens or a trailer at this stage, it sounds as if 2K Marin is attempting to do for the XCOM series what Bethesda is doing for Fallout.
"With BioShock 2, the team at 2K Marin proved themselves as masters of first-person, suspenseful storytelling, and with XCOM they will re-imagine and expand the rich lore of this revered franchise," said Christoph Hartmann, President of 2K Games. "Players will explore the world of XCOM from an immersive new perspective and experience firsthand the fear and tension of this gripping narrative ride."
