WoW Tops 2 Million Subscribers News

World of Warcraft developer Blizzard Entertainment has today announced that the number of global subscribers to the MMORPG has past through the two million mark. The game launched in China on June 7th 2005, where half a million players explored the land of Azeroth concurrently during the Beta test stage, leaving Blizzard free to admit that the number of subscribers is expected to soon rocket. Putting the concurrent Chinese figure into context, it nearly equals the combined peak figure for the three current territories combined, which does show an indication of how big the game should prove to be in the coming weeks and months.

"World of Warcraft continues to surpass all expectations as gamers around the world embrace it with overwhelming support," said Mike Morhaime, President and Co-Founder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We want to thank our players for their incredible response, and we promise to continue supporting World of Warcraft with more updates and content. The new Battlegrounds are just the beginning of greater enhancements to come."

WoW is expected to launch in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau later in 2005, although Blizzard are yet to release a precise date, as well as releasing new content such as additional Battlegrounds and updates.
