Blizzard Unveil WoW Battlegrounds News

Blizzard Entertainment has today announced the release of the first two Player versus Player Battlegrounds for World of Warcraft. With distinct map designs and objectives, the company anticipates that the new Battlegrounds will add a whole new dimension to WoW, with the next set currently in development ahead of testing in the months ahead.

The two maps, Alterac Valley and Warsong Gulch, are set in differing environments with the former seeing epic battles as two teams of 40 fight in the snowy Lordaeron region, and the latter nestled in-between Ashenvale Forest and the Barrens where two teams of 10 battle through three rounds of Capture the Flag.

The Alterac Battleground includes several features that should make it the scene of many a bloody wasteland; each side has its own base of operations and the environment includes NPC defenders, PvP quests, and various monsters, with players given the ability to build a winning strategy and earn as many Honor points as possible.

Announcing the new additions, Mike Morhaime, President and Co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment stated, â??While World of Warcraft has been expanding with new content regularly since launch, the PvP Battlegrounds represent the single biggest update to the game yetâ?¦Weâ??re excited that players can now experience Horde-vs.-Alliance combat as it was meant to be, and weâ??re looking forward to adding even more Battlegrounds to the game with future updates.â?
