Are Nintendo messing with us, or has Takahashi-san missed the plot...

Just when you thought everybody was sharing Nintendo's vision of a "new generation", NAMCO's estranged designer behind the Katamari Damacy series has come out and shared his critical view of the Reovlution's controller.

Expressing scepticism over the concept, Keita Takahashi claimed within a Game Developer interview, "I'm not really interested in it. I don't think a controller should have that much influence on the enjoyment of games."

Continuing, Takahashi-san refused to hold back on the criticism, stating "I see what trying to do, but they're putting such emphasis on the controller; 'Woah, this controller lets you do this!' and I'm thinking - are you messing with us?"

Considering that Katamari Damacy introduced a rewarding control system that took full advantage of the dual thumbsticks (a problem faced by the PSP adaptation), TVG finds it a little strange that Takahashi-san isn't excited by the possibilities that the Revolution offers.

Just in case we need reminding, Takahashi-san previously raised a few eyebrows with suggestions that he'd rather design children's playgrounds then videogames in an interview with the BBC Online.
