THQ careers site reveals plans for a console-based action game based on the Games Workshop world...
Besides the ongoing efforts by Relic Entertainment to push forward the boundaries of the RTS genre with Dawn of War II in early 2009, it seems that THQ has plans underway to take the sci-fi fantasy brand from Games Workshop back to the consoles.
Several jobs listings "for all disciplines to work on an action game for Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3 based on the popular Warhammer 40,000 universe from Games Workshop" have appeared on THQ Australia's website, with additional information on the publisher's own careers pages.
It does seem like the game's release will be quite some time away however, with vacancies for an Engine Programmer, Lead Designer, and Lead Artist all making the listings on the studio's website.
When launched, the action game will be the first in the 40k franchise to hit the home consoles since Warhammer 40: Fire Warrior landed on the PlayStation 2 back in 2003. THQ released Warhammer 40k: Squad Command the DS and PSP last year.

Humans in WH40K are the dominant species in the galaxy, having an army that numbers in the trillions. The Space marines are a special army or power armor wearing fanatic super-Rambos, and there are about a million of them all told.
Sure, the threats the Imperium faces are even greater than itself, but humanity is hardly on the brink of extinction... They are so numerous they lose planets to beurocratic rounding errors ffs!

Uh, I think you have your marines mixed up. Yes, the rounds of a bolter are rocket powered but they aren't magnetically fired from the weapon. The round is cased, propelled down the barrel by escaping gasses and the gyrojet-like rocket is fired milimeters from the barrels muzzle.

1st, by 40k standards humans are on the brink of extinction. Millions of spaced out, isolated systems, outnumbered by their foes by more than 1,000 to 1, technologically inferior. Humans seem screwed...
2nd, it will be a 3rd Person Shooter/ RPG, and it looks like it will be awesome...=D
