In the last of our features on Dawn of War: Winter Assault, we take a look at the Eldar Fire Dragon...
Fire Dragons â?“ by Jonny Ebbert, Game Designer
The Fire Dragon Aspect is based upon the writhing, sinewy dragon of Eldar myth, a dragon they believe to be an incarnation of destruction and devastation. This is an appropriate analogy, since Fire Dragons can do incredible amounts of destruction in the right circumstances. A squad of Fire Dragons unleashed on unprotected vehicles or an unprotected base can level their targets in a matter of seconds.
Fire Dragons have the unenviable job of dealing with vehicles and structures, so only the bravest of Eldar are chosen. Their fusion guns have been calibrated to cut through the heavy armor of tanks and anti-infantry vehicles. The specific calibrations of their fusion guns mean that they do little to no damage to infantry, but the devastating damage they do to the armor of vehicles and structures makes the trade-off worthwhile.
Fire Dragons are among the most heavily armored of Eldar Infantry. Their range is short so they have to be able to withstand the punishing fire of infantry, and the murderous barrages of the heavy bolters and flame throwers attached to most tanks and listening posts. The Fire Dragonâ??s heavy armor allows them to wade through these hazards and annihilate their targets.
Because of their elaborate equipment, and the intensity of their training, Fire Dragons are only available to those Farseers who have established a Soul Shrine, and have built the necessary aspect stone. But those Farseers who do have access to Fire Dragons have a strong counter to vehicles, and a unit that can quickly destroy an unprotected base.
TVG would like to thank Jonny Ebbert for his insight of Winter Assault; weâ??ll have our review of the game coming very soon, as well as a huge Dawn of War: Winter Assault competitionâ?¦!

Leave it up to THQ to screw up a great game by making it impossible to play it.
