Virtua Tennis 4 emerges exclusively for Sony's PlayStation 3 at Cologne's Gamescom trade fair...

SEGA has officially announced Virtua Tennis 4 exclusively for Sony's PlayStation 3 platform, complete with full support for the PS3's upcoming Move controller and Stereoscopic 3D technology. A 2011 launch has been tentatively pegged on the game at this stage.

This news originally dropped during Sony's Gamescom address last night, although a subsequent SEGA announcement has added some fetching screens for the game. Virtua Tennis 4 follows the release of Virtua Tennis 2009 last summer, which featured MotionPlus support on the Wii version.

Unlike Virtua Tennis 2009 though, which was developed by Sumo Digital, Virtua Tennis 4 is being developed by SEGA's AM3 studio. AM3 previously handled the development of Virtua Tennis 3's PS3 version, which was a launch title for the console here in Europe.

"We have always strived to provide a tennis experience that is both true to the sport and great fun to play, and we are continuing to work with Sony to make this happen", commented Gary Knight, Senior Vice President of Marketing at SEGA Europe and SEGA America. "With Virtua Tennis 4 being developed for PlayStation Move and featuring 3D technology, the boundaries of realism in sports video games are being pushed even further".
