SEGA has announced Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown, an updated and expanded version of the publisher's original 2007 iteration of VF5 designed specifically for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network.
Tuned with enhanced mechanics and animations, more balances, new game modes, dynamic and interactive arenas, and customisable character items, this updated iteration of Virtua Fighter 5 will also add two all-new fighters to the existing roster.
A summer 2012 release window has been tentatively planned by SEGA for VF5: Final Showdown's release, which will be over five years since the original Virtua Fighter 5 was released as a boxed copy at retail for Xbox 360 and PS3.
In other digital-download SEGA news, Eurogamer is reporting that Sonic 4: Episode 2 won't be arriving until 2012 (meaning it'll miss Sonic's 20th anniversary celebrations this year), while Sonic CD was mentioned in a list of upcoming XBLA titles on Major Nelson's blog, prompting rumours of a remake for the 1993, Mega-CD original.
