Official website update reveals details of new C&C before being taken offline...
The official Command & Conquer website is said to have been updated with a number of details about a new game in the series.
The website has since gone offline, but RockPaperShotgun reports that details of a brand new C&C game and development studio were posted before it was taken down. Development at the new studio - dubbed Victory Games - is said to be split between three locations: LA, Texas, and Shanghai. EA stated last October that a “pretty far out” new C&C game was being developed by a Los Angeles based studio, somewhat corroborating today’s reports.
Studio boss Jon Van Caneghem is said to confirm that Victory Games “is making a AAA Command & Conquer game” in an interview on the pulled site.
“I can tell you it’s a Command & Conquer game for the PC, but we’re not yet at a stage where I can go into any details— we’ll be prepared to make a more formal announcement later in the year. We’re not just working on a game, though. Our general focus is on the future of Command & Conquer. That means updating a lot of the core technology to create a stable base for future development, and leveraging that work on this first game.”
Further details were gleaned from an About page on the website:
“Command & Conquer now looks to the future, with plans to combine classic RTS gameplay with bold new technology, innovative new concepts and, as always, tanks by the dozen.”
Could this “pretty far out” new title be some sort of persistent C&C MMO? Nothing has been confirmed by EA as yet.
