Online report confirms previous rumours that Uncharted 3 will be set in a desert...
Chalk one up for rumour and speculation - it turns out it was bang on the money, again. Uncharted 3 has just been revealed alongside confirmation that it will be set in a desert; more specifically, the Rub' al Khali desert in Saudi Arabia's 'Empty Quarter'.
Nathan Drake will travel to the desert in search of a lost city that's been fabled through the ages (sounds familiar), proving that his adventures are as much attuned to the Indiana Jones paradigm as they have been previously.
Entertainment Weekly even reports that it was demoed a separate locale away from the desert by the good folks at Naughty Dog. Although the publication wasn't at liberty to divulge any info on the setting, EW did reveal that the gameplay through this locale was "quintessential Uncharted" in its style.
In terms of gameplay features, pickings were slim unfortunately. News of an enhanced backward climbing dynamic and the ability to fight multiple enemies at one time formed the highlights, while Naughty Dog does seem keen to focus more intently on multiplayer this time around:
"We want to take on the big boys of the multi-player genre," said Evan Wells, Naughty Dog's Co-Preisdent. "It has become something here at Naughty Dog that will become an important part to all our games."
Naughty Dog was apparently a bit vague on the game's release date, although the report does indicate that an autumn 2011 release alongside the first Uncharted novel (Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth) appears likely.
Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception will be further revealed at the Spike VGAs this weekend. We'll be sure to bring you more info as we get it...
Update:
More details have now emerged from the US PlayStation Blog: Arne Meyer, Naughty Dog's Community Strategist has revealed that the game's campaign will take players "all over the world" but starts off in the Arabian desert where Nathan Drake and his mentor, Victor 'Sully' Sullivan search for the 'Atlantis of the Sands'.
Both competitive and co-op multiplayer have been billed to return as part of the full package, while Naughty Dog has now confirmed high-resolution Stereoscopic 3D support as well. More as we get it...

It has the the potential to be the best game this generation but its gonna have alot of competition for game of the year in 2011. me3, tes5,lbp2, and infamous 2, I think are very strong competitors for goty.
