Microsoft Japan confirms the cancellation of Level-5 promising MMORPG…

Microsoft Japan and Level-5 today shocked Xbox fans with the alarming news that development on the promising True Fantasy Live Online has stopped, and confirmed that the Massively-Multiplayer-Online-Role-Playing-Game (MMORPG) has been canned.

The ambitious title was announced back in 2002 and was seen as an attempt to attract Japanese gamers to the Xbox, seeing acclaimed RPG specialist Level-5 take the helm, having previously developed titles in the Dark Cloud series for Sony Computer Entertainment and currently working on Dragon Quest VIII for Square-Enix.

The reason behind the decision appears to stem from the lack of progress in development, and whilst itâ??s fair to say that the game has improved in quality in recent years, it has to be said that it lacked nay real direction on the few occasions we got to see it. It must also be noted that Microsoft have admittedly given up on Japan this time around, however weâ??re surprised to learn that it wasnâ??t pushed on to Xbox2 and used as a big title to launch that format in Japan â?“ certainly it was one of the few Xbox titles to cause any attention in the region.

It also highlights Microsoftâ??s ongoing decision to streamline its portfolio, the result of which has seen numerous high-profile titles dropped from the publishers catalogue.
