Just because there's not a movie next year doesn't mean there won't be a new game...

Activision-Blizzard likes its franchises, particularly those that fit an annual strategy and especially if they've got the support of a blockbuster Hollywood movie behind them.

Transformers obviously fits this bill and has the added benefit of kids going crazy for it.  The only problem is that Paramount needs more than a year to turn the movies around and with Transformers 3 not expected to hit cinemas until 2011, Activision has a year to fill.  Instead of taking a break to whet our appetites for more, it seems Activision will use the time to develop an original title based on the still popular toy brand.

Details from a first look at Transformers: War for Cybertron have recently appeared in the latest issue of Game Informer, which in turn have rapidly made their way on to the internet.  High Moon Studios (Dark Watch, The Bourne Conspiracy) has reportedly taken the helm this time around in a series that has spawned two titles in two years under seven different development studios.

Early details suggest that the game is billed as a Gears of War third-person shooter, featuring Autobot and Decepticon campaigns in addition to online multiplayer modes.  Expect an official announcement soon.
