Inevitable movie tie-in arriving on every format available; DS owners get two versions to choose between...

The appearance of a Transformers video game return to coincide with this year's Hollywood sequel was probably one of the least surprising entries from a marketing research leak last year: good sales of the original? Check; this summer's movie blockbuster? Check; generic, low-risk game design? ... Check.

So confirmation from Activision of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is hardly going to astonish, neither is the fact it's coming out on virtually every format imaginable.

Letting players pick from both the Autobot and Decepticon factions of what's described as the "most diverse range" of Transformers, Revenge of the Fallen pits missions across the globe in locations as diverse as Cairo and Shanghai.  With the ability to shift between vehicle and robots as they drive, fly, fight, and probably sleep, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will also feature entirely new (yet almost certainly incredibly unoriginal) online multiplayer modes.

Following Warner Bros. purchase of Travellers Tales, creators of the 2007 tie-in, development responsibilities now fall to Luxoflux for the Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and PC versions.  Krome Studios will be handling the Wii and PlayStation2 ports, Vicarious Vision is developing two titles for the DS (Autobot and Decepticon boxes), while Savage Entertainment is looking after the PSP - is that everybody?
