2K Games announces a new Top Spin game, due for release next year on Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii...

2K Games has officially announced a fourth instalment in its series of Top Spin tennis games, which is currently due for release next year on Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii.

Top Spin 4 is in development at 2K Czech (the same studio that developed Mafia II) and is poised to face-off against SEGA's Virtua Tennis 4, which also launches next year. Unlike the PS3 exclusive Virtua Tennis 4 though (which is Move compatible), 2K Games hasn't mentioned any motion-controlled gameplay for Top Spin 4's Xbox 360 and PS3 versions at this stage.

The announcement press release doesn't mention MotionPlus support for the Wii version either, although there's always the chance that 2K will make further announcements on this at a later date.

Andre Agassi will feature in the game as a playable character (albeit a 'vintage' Agassi with long hair), although he's exclusively limited to those players who pre-order the game. More details on this pre-order incentive will be shared with gamers closer to release.

"Top Spin 4 is shaping up to be the most realistic and exhilarating tennis game in the Top Spin franchise," said Greg Thomas, President of Product Development for 2K Sports. "For this iteration, the development team is focused on delivering a bold new take on the sport of tennis by allowing gamers to experience first-hand an uncanny level of realism in the player and stadium models, authentic audio captured directly from real tennis matches, and all-new innovative controls to dominate the competition."
