A handful of extra details on the skateboard peripheral; it's the game Tony Hawk's has always wanted to make, apparently...

Following last week's sighting, Activision today officially confirmed the release of Tony Hawk's Ride and in the words of the birdman himself it's "... the game I've always wanted to make."

Featuring an array of accelerometers and motion sensors, the skateboard peripheral allows gamers to control the action by performing movements and gestures on the board, thus negating the need for "complex button combinations".  Now forgive us for being slightly cynical, but wasn't it the skill and dexterity that made Tony Hawk's in the first place?

Still Activision loves its peripherals and we're inclined to believe this should at least put the ageing series into new territory.  Certainly Activision's head of marketing Rob Kostich is inclined to believe claiming, "Tony Hawk: RIDE is a massive step forward for the franchise and the gaming industry as a whole."

ha ha TH better than skate. ask any skater what they think. if you don't like skate then you are just not co-ordinated enough and need someone to show you. once you get it there is no way ever anyone can say it isn't as good as TH. the freedom it allows is awesome
