Sam Fisher's PSP debut is finally confirmed by Ubisoft...

Last month, we reported on a little clarification sought by TVG on the Splinter Cell PSP title, and today the publisher has finally confirmed the game, Splinter Cell Essentials. Announcing the game, which is set for a Spring 2006 release, Ubisoft reveals that Essentials is set after the events of Splinter Cell Double Agent and takes the form of flashbacks from the whole series including pre-Third Echelon missions.

As well as featuring single-player gameplay, Splinter Cell Essentials will also include the Wi-Fi multiplayer mode, Spy vs. Spy Deathmatch. Ubisoft has also confirmed that weapons and gadgets from Fisher's escapades all make it into the game, together with a few exclusive to the PSP.

"Splinter Cell Essentials is a groundbreaking handheld game that has everything Splinter Cell fans love about the top-selling franchise," says John Parkes, EMEA marketing director at Ubisoft. "It will also feature a number of surprises that will allow players to dive deeper into the story of Sam Fisher."

We'll have more news shortly...
