Ubisoft confirms the development of Tom Clancy's Air Combat; Blazing Angels studio takes the sticks...

Coming just months after the announcement of EndWar, Ubisoft has unveiled the development of a fifth brand in the Tom Clancy family of franchise, currently in production at the publisher's Bucharest studio.

Pencilled in for a 2008 release on next-gen consoles and PC, Tom Clancy's Air Combat takes to the skies of the future as the first aerial-based series in the brand. The game revolves around the premise that a powerful Private Military force attacks the US, and the ensuing dogfight that emerges.

"Ubisoft has an unrivalled track record of creating and sustaining new brands," said Serge Hascoet, chief creative officer at Ubisoft. "Our commitment to refreshing our catalogue with regular introduction of new IPs is what keeps gamers coming back for more. With this new brand we're redefining the aerial combat genre and extending the Tom Clancy universe to deliver a compelling new action titles to next-generation gamers."

"We are confident that this new brand will become the new benchmark for flight combat games and will be, like other Tom Clancy based games, an instant online multiplayer hit," says Sebastien Delen, managing director of Ubisoft's Bucharest studio. "The player will experience all the action and excitement of modern air combat, from intense dog fighting to tactical strikes."

Ubisoft Bucharest has been responsible for the Blazing Angels franchise, which recently expanded with 'Secret Missions of World War II'.

Yep, the similarities to Ace Combat are more than coincidental, but there are still some pretty original features in HAWX - it is its own game.
