Online reports claim the doors have been shut at Nottingham's Free Radical Design...
Online sources are this afternoon claiming that Timesplitters and HAZE development studio, Free Radical Design, has closed its doors.
Whilst official confirmation is yet to be made, reports originating from GamesIndustry.biz cite several anonymous sources that claim staff turned up to work today, only to find the doors locked and 'instructions to meet at a nearby hotel for a final company meeting'.
Free Radical's previous title, HAZE, was wholly derided earlier in 2008 for its poor execution. The PlayStation 3 exclusive, Free Radical's debut title on the current crop of consoles, nose-dived out of the UK all format charts in the late spring, with suggestions that the overly-hyped Ubisoft title only sold 500,000 units. The studio had confirmed that work on a fourth Timesplitters game was under-way, and that it was also working on a 'secret' project for LucasArts, which was widely expected to be Star Wars Battlefront III.
GI.biz is reporting that work on Battlefront III has switched developers to UK indie, Rebellion Developments. The studio has already proved itself with the franchise, producing Star Wars Battlefront III: Renegade Squadron for PSP back in October 2007.
[UPDATE] TVG has contacted Rebellion regarding the reports. A spokesperson refused to comment, but offered sympathy to those at Free Radical Design following today's news.

well thanks to the contract they signed with sony to make it a ps3 exclusive has cost em big time, maybe a few more developers should take notice the xbox has more users than the ps3 and the 360 is/has more shooters on it than any other console out at the minuit so time splitters could have come out on 360 with guranteed sales topping the same as cod/gears of war ect.
