EA Working On The Sims TV Show News

For the last few years, The Sims computer games have managed to attract the attention of a lot of people who would not usually associate themselves as being â??gamersâ??. Following on from that success, it seems that the phenomenon may soon be coming to television, as Electronic Arts have revealed that their goal is to create a reality TV based on the game.

In an interview with Reuters last week, EAâ??s Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Jan Bolz, revealed that, â??One idea could be that you're controlling a family, telling them when to go to the kitchen and when to go to the bedroom, and with this mechanism you have gamers all over the world 'playing the show'." Bolz also commented that plans for the show were at an early stage, but that EA are currently in talks with TV production companies.

In the past weâ??ve had several TV shows based on video game characters (most notable the Super Mario Brothers and Sonic cartoons), but nothing has been as ambitious as EAâ??s Sims TV show would be.

Whether it will appeal to TV viewers is of course yet to be seen, but one thing is for sure - it will have to be quite different from other reality shows such as Big Brother to really stand out. Having said that, if EA are as serious about devising a show based on the game, you can rest assured that they will already be thinking of ways to dominate the reality TV genre in their own style.
