A new series of Monkey Island games is coming to the PC and Wii "in just a few short weeks"...

LucasArts has announced the Tales of Monkey Island, a set of new adventures in the Monkey Island universe that will be released for Nintendo's Wii (via WiiWare) and PC "in just a few short weeks".

Development of the series has been handed over to episodic game specialists and creators of Sam & Max, Telltale Games, which will release a total of five, monthly Monkey Island episodes this year with the first adventure to debut in the coming weeks.

LucasArts and Telltale's story outline reveals that these new episodes will once again follow the adventures of Guybrush Threepwood, who seems to have unleashed a voodoo pox, while battling his nemesis LeChuck, that turns buccaneers into pirates.

"The Monkey Island series set the standard for storytelling and character development in games," said Telltale CEO, Dan Connors. "The next several months should be filled with all kinds of surprises as we continue the dramatic stories of Guybrush, Elaine and LeChuck. We are happy to be working with LucasArts to make this happen."

In addition to this, LucasArts has also announced The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition, which had previously been spotted on the German game ratings board and was all but officially confirmed.

This remake of the cult classic will be released on Xbox Live Arcade and PC later this summer containing updated HD visuals, a re-mastered musical score, voice-overs for in-game characters, and a new hint system to help players through the game's puzzles. There's even the option to flick between the classic and updated visuals seamlessly.
