Over eighteen months after its developer went into receivership, The Saga of Ryzom is stirring once more...

In November 2006, it seemed like Parisian outfit Nevrax had sounded the death-knell for its sci-fi fantasy MMO, The Saga of Ryzom. With the studio entering receivership, it looked like (despite making the title free to download for a month) the world of Atys was going gently into that good night.

However, the inhabitants of the gameworld, including the comically named Karavans and Kitins (the thought of two young cats locking horns in 'Kombat' remains in our minds even to this day), are slowly being awoken, as the Ryzom team have today announced that the MMO is making a return.

Dogged subscribers to the game have apparently been testing the newly online servers in recent weeks as part of a VIP access scheme, and the Ryzom team aren't stopping there. For now, new gamers won't be able to access Atys, although the team is reassuring that the doors will open properly quite soon.

It's unclear whether Ryzom will return to being subscription based, or whether it'll utilise a micro-transaction strategy; just expect more on the return of the Saga of Ryzom in the coming weeks.
