From the creators of 'Command & Conquer: Generals' comes a new RTS title based on Tolkien's legacy...

EA today confirmed that it’s EALA studio has begun work on an RTS title based on The Lord of the Rings franchise.<br><br>‘The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth’ is scheduled for release in Summer 2004 and utilises the ‘Command & Conquer: Generals’ engine. It’s claimed the game will allow you to compete in campaigns for both the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ sides, whilst it’s believed EALA are going to town with the units featuring the likes of Oliphaunts, Orcs and Hobbits.<br><br>“The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth will give gamers the first chance to play the epic battles they’ve witnessed in Peter Jackson’s films,” said Mark Skaggs, VP and Executive Producer of the game. “Fans will be able to immerse themselves in Middle Earth and experience The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy like never before, including controlling the evil side of the conflict.”<br><br>As you can see from the first screens it’s certainly looking impressive at this stage and could finally be the title to re-ignite some faith in the tired RTS genre; we’ll have more on ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth’ soon.
