EA announces that actor Hugo Weaving is set to return to the world of Tolkien in the RTS sequel...

Electronic Arts has today confirmed that Hugo Weaving will be returning to Middle-Earth in the forthcoming Lord of the Rings RTS, The Battle for Middle-Earth II. The actor, who played the role of Elven Lord Elrond in Peter Jacksonâ??s movie adaptation, will be the lead voice talent for the sequel, acting as both a guide to the player as well as reprising his pointy ears. The news comes as EA also announced that one of the key conceptual artists for the movies and for Tolkien illustrations in general, John Howe, has been brought on board to design and develop the dragons set to appear in the PC title.

Speaking on his return to the role Mr Weaving said, "Generally with Lord of the Rings, no one ever really says goodbye to it because it seems that you were always coming backâ?¦I always find voice work really fascinating because you are working on one element of your make up as an actor -- focusing more intently on one part of your toolbox if you like -- in a way so everything seems to go into producing that vocal effect. It really isn't just an effect, because it actually comes from a source which is a true continuation of that character."

"We are delighted to have Hugo Weaving as the voice of Battle for Middle-earth II," said Mike Verdu, Executive Producer at EALA. "Mr. Weaving was brilliantly cast as the great Elven leader Elrond in the film trilogy and now his voice will help bring the game story and the world of Middle-earth to life for everyone who plays Battle for Middle-earth II. I am also very excited to be working with John Howe who will help us visualize key creatures within the game!"

The Battle for Middle-Earth II is set for a 2006 release on PC; weâ??ll have more on the title shortlyâ?¦

I just finished the good campaign, and I was let down. It was cool to be the elves and the dwarves, but the movie was all about the men. It would have been cool to continue the campaign, but as men now.I think that there should heve been more to the campaign then there was. Also it was very short compared to the campaign in the first lord of the rings, the battle for middle earth. (and where was legolas? Is he not an elf? Shouldnt he have been there to help his people?)
