Nintendo’s major announcement took a step nearer today, as leading financial experts <a href=http://cbs.marketwatch.com/news/default.asp?siteid=mktw>CBS Marketwatch</a>, reported that Nintendo are about to announce the purchase of Capcom.<br><br>The article claims that the recent announcement of five GameCube exclusive titles and the fact that the market is ripe for consolidation, suggests that this is the most likely announcement that we’ll hear from Japan.<br><br>To be honest we’re going to wait awhile before we believe this one; whilst it’s certain that nothing can surprise us in this industry now, we were disappointed by the lack of substance to this article and would certainly not believe it until we hear something more significant. The chance of Nintendo taking control of Capcom is relatively high however; the Japanese publisher is in need of development talent after selling Rare; relations between the two companies are stronger then ever; Nintendo has the money to finance the move, whilst Capcom have had a relatively poor year and would benefit from the cash injection; more importantly Nintendo needs to attract gamers out of their target demographic, titles such as Resident Evil and Devil May Cry have a strong chance of doing just that.<br><br>The report claims that Nintendo would make an announcement today; at the time of writing this has yet to happen and there’s hardly a mention in the Japanese press, but we’ll keep you posted throughout the day if anything occurs.<br>
