SEGA and Headstrong Games reinvent the original with a pulp-horror style...

Still consider the Wii to be family friendly? Well it seems SEGA doesn't, with confirmation that a new, darker, grittier House of the Dead will be heading to the format in 2009.

Currently in development at Headstrong Games (formerly Kuju ), The House of the Dead: Overkill is described as an all-new, pulp-horror reinvention of the original.

Taking players right back to the origins of the popular lightgun series, Overkill promises a new retro look with distinctive graphics as Special Agent G and Detective Washington investigate stories of mysterious disappearances in small-town Louisiana.

"We wanted to do something really different with The House of the Dead: OVERKILL," commented Bradley Crooks, Studio Head at Headstrong Games. "With SEGA we've been able to create a fresh look for the franchise. I think you'll agree it's like nothing you've seen before on Wii."

"Paying homage to the pulp horror comics and films that inspired generations of gore fans, The House of the Dead: OVERKILL will expose gamers to a brand-new fleshy rollercoaster ride of revolting dismemberment," commented Gary Knight, European Marketing Director at SEGA Europe. "This is the hardcore Wii title you've been waiting for."

The House of the Dead: Overkill will be making its debut at Leipzig Games Convention, so expect further details shortly.

This game is bada$$, one of the few hardcore titles out for wii.  Go buy it don't rent support the hardcore games coming out on wii so we get more of them.  Really there isn't a game like it out period.  I got the nerf light gun skin for the wiimote and its really just too much fun.  The style, graphics, sound, and gameplay make this my favorite light gun game hands down.  If you like killing zombies and don't want to be bothered by puzzle solving crap OVERKILL is where its at you won't be sorry.  I would say however you deffinately want some kind of light gun and not just the wiimote, havent' played it without the nerf light gun but I don't want to even try.  I would give this game 9-9.5 out of 10 seriously.

Ehm, did you miss the part where ALL lightgun games are about highscores?

Giving a 27% for longetivity is ridiculous, really. The 2 gamemodes combined will last for some 7 hours, which is about the time you need to finish Gears 1.
