Full details on the game formerly known as The Getaway 2...

During its pre-E3 conference Sony lifted the lid on The Getaway: Black Monday, the highly anticipated sequel to Team Sohoâ??s The Getaway.

Whilst the original became a huge success due to its cinematic style, Team SoHo are promising huge innovations with the sequel, which should hopefully improve the overall gameplay quite significantly.

Building upon the 25 square miles of London faithfully replicated for its predecessor, The Getaway: Black Monday offers more driving and on-foot sections, whilst the promise of free-roaming gameplay and a huge variety of mission types should please fans of the original.

Using an innovative approach to storytelling; the games narrative will progress both backward and forward through time, as players discover the story through three unique perspectives â?“ certainly this time around this should be the videogame equivalent of Guy Ritchies Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Players take control of three all-new characters throughout the game, namely Mitch, Eddie and Sam, each with their own skills, abilities, attitude and motivation.

The story begins with a chain of events that takes place two years after the demise of the most notorious crime boss of Londonâ??s East End and all-round nasty guy from the original, Charlie Jolson. A simple bank job goes wrong, a small-time thug gets in way over his head and a cop is out for revenge â?“ sending two sides of the same tale into a collision course for an explosive showdown.

SCEE assure us that the player will have a much greater degree of freedom then that in The Getaway; as such players will make crucial decision to influence the final outcome.

Whilst the overall replication of London from a visual point of view was undoubtedly impressive in the original, the lack of interaction with it resulted in a very stilted experience; thankfully this has been addressed in the sequel, with the promise of 17 new landmark locations and the ability to use the Underground as transport, along with motorbikes, buses, taxis and many more to steal, drive and crash.

A variety of game modes has also been promised, allowing players to explore old locations in a free-roaming mode and unlocking bonus game modes as a result.

Naturally the visuals have been enhanced with bodies now dying realistically thanks to the implementation of rag-doll physics, whilst the cinematic style of the original is only set to improve, with over 20 actors enlisted to provide scenes for the game.

Although the original was slightly disappointing, the promise of free-roaming gameplay, consequences to your actions and a greater level of actual gameplay, weâ??ve certainly got high hopes for Black Monday and will bring you much more soon.
