The Fast and The Furious

Namco Bandai has today announced the development of The Fast and The Furious, based on the movie franchise's third instalment The Fast and The Furious: Tokyo Drift, for PlayStation2 and PSP. Though not an adaptation of the events in the movie, the game is said to incorporate key features from the style of racing in the third instalment, namely drift-style racing.

Said to feature an authentic drift model system that enables gamers of all skill levels to enjoy the game, The Fast and The Furious will also include Rubber Band AI, multiplayer action (1-2 player split screen and 1-4 online play) and over 500 body kits from a number of JDM companies.

"NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. is proud to be the first publisher to bring this great movie franchise to console and handheld video games," said Jeff Lujan, Business Director, NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. "The alluring underground world of street racing has made for some of the industry's most popular games. The Fast and the Furious will offer never-before-seen drift mechanics, endless customization capabilities and top licensed cars. It's everything a racing fan could ask for."

We are excited to work with NAMCO BANDAI Games America on this project," said Bill Kispert, Vice President, Interactive, Universal Studios Consumer Products Group. "NAMCO BANDAI has a history of developing top quality racing games, and we look forward to putting players behind the wheel of a game that delivers the action and the attitude for which The Fast and the Furious brand is renowned."

Set for a summer 2006 release, The Fast and The Furious is currently in development at Eutechnyx who've in the past produced a number of racing titles including Syndicate Street Racing and 007 Racing. We'll have more news shortly...
