Late April launch for Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Athena across Europe; demo due in March...

Activision Blizzard drop-out, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, has today received a late-April release date by its new publisher, Atari.

Heading to North America on April 7th followed by Europe on April 24th, Dark Athena includes a brand new campaign together with an HD version of Xbox Original, Escape from Butcher Bay, and a new multiplayer mode.  Development of Dark Athena has been the responsibility of Starbreeze Studios, the outfit behind Butcher Bay and 2K Games' Prey.

The games are set before the events of 2000's cult sci-fi movie, Pitch Black, which saw Riddick and a band of interplanetary travellers try to escape from a planet ravaged by creatures not too dissimilar to Gears of Wars' Kryll.

Atari has also confirmed that a demo of the game will be heading to both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network in March.

If it's just extra maps I don't see the issue with, especially if they're free.  It's talking about extra game modes the day before the game's released that I'm suspicious of.

The game hasn't been released yet and they're already talking about the DLC? Since when was DLC. How long til we buy the game engine and have to pay for each and every level? Or til rented DLC - pay for the extra maps, get them for a month? When I were a lad you paid for a game and got a whole game. Expansions were released months or years later, not developed alongside the main content.

@ Snowdon

Yeah, I'm 99% certain Vin lent both his voice and likeness to Rid[#@!?] again.  I'm looking forward to playing this, but I don't think a demo is due on PSN yet :(
