According to The Hollywood Reporter, the owners of The Terminator IP, Halcyon Co., has revealed that they will be releasing a Terminator game alongside the fourth Terminator film (Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins). The film and game are due for a simultaneous release in mid-2009.
The Halcyon Company is a film production and development company which acquired the IP for The Terminator franchise last May. For the upcoming game, Halcyon will be forming its own gaming subsidiary and teaming up with an established games publisher to distribute the title.
Derek Anderson, the Co-CEO of The Halcyon Company, talked about the significance of a film licensed game: "We don't want the game to be the stepchild to the film. They're of equal importance, and we want both to be of the same quality and be the same compelling experience."
At this early stage, Halcyon are saying that the game will be an all format release, with games on the next-gen systems and PC being specifically mentioned. Let's just hope that they can produce a Terminator game that finally makes gamers feel as if they're John Connor being chased by a T-1000, which is not something that previous Terminator titles have excelled at to say the least.
